"I tried sharing Jesus with them but they still don't believe." This is a common struggle to accept and comprehend as to why such things happen to those you witness Jesus to. The most difficult audience is those closest to us: family, friends or those we've gone through life together with. You believe in the power of the Gospel and its miracle-working power to change lives but don't expect any other results than for it to work. Be reassured, the Gospel does work and the seed is still planted. So what should I do then?
Your responsibility of sharing the Gospel is a command from God but He performs the remaining work. We find in Scriptures that God's role in evangelism is firstly loving the world that He gave His only Son, so that we would believe in Him (John 3:16). Second, those who believe in Him is not condemned and those who don't believe is already condemned (John 3:18). Third, He is patient towards us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
A few important items to note:
• God loves you and looks beyond your sin, guilt, shame, and bondage.
• He made the opportunity to believe in Him.
• His love is too great to hasten and punish us; He is patient.
• Your current situation doesn't define your ending.
• There is still hope for those you're reaching.
Jesus didn’t have to die on the cross. God didn't have to send His only Son. The Holy Spirit didn't have to come upon us and in us after Jesus ascended. None of us deserved anything more but death itself. Our sin should have held us up to the cross. But God being so gracious toward you firstly and then those you're sharing the Gospel with, is consistently patience toward all creation. The seed planted in those you love, those you hope for, and those you are persistent with, God will not despise. Continue sharing the Gospel, never give up and believe for the working power of God to continue transforming lives. Remember that He loves those people more than even we can express towards them. Therefore, it's a partnership with heaven to win the lost.
